I recently did the first cull on my Yamabuki Ogon crop. All looks well there also,... knock on some wood. The size is good for the age, the body shapes are good, and the numbers are great,... so far! We'll see what we have in the Fall.

The parent Koi of my Yamabuki Ogons combine their genes well. The offspring in the past have been incredible. The male is from Isumiya, and contributes a rich thick golden yellow color and a very reflective metallic shine. He's 12 years old. Heres a photo.



The female is from Suda, and is a lighter creamy yellow. She contributes a strong body and size. Shes 30 inches, and about 10 years old.

Here is some video footage of this years crop enjoying the current from the aerator. Yamabuki Ogons are like other Koi,... they develop their color thickness and metallic shine slowly over the first few years. At this very young age the skin is somewhat transluscent and dull. At harvest time in October they will have put on a few layers of yellow paint. Notice the water in the mud pond also, how it looks as it rolls. This is good water for Koi.

Older siblings of these babys have proven themselves in growth, and in Koi Shows across the US with several Best In Variety Awards.
