This Spotted Salimander is perched in a precarious place, with a pond full of curious and hungry male Koi behind it. These amphibians lay their eggs here in my mud ponds in the Winter. Late Winter and early Spring are generally the only time I see them. Spotted Salimanders can live for more than 20 years,... if they stay clear of hungry Koi.
