Question: "This is a great looking koi! Does the "feathering" or lighter red coloring around the edges of the red blotches get stronger, fade or does is it always look the same? Thanks for taking the time with me,"
Answer: One of the lineages I work from with my Kohakus is Yagozen type. The edges show maruzome kiwa, and the scalloped edges sharpen, fill in and creep outward some as the Koi matures. Here's a photo example of the Kohaku. The left pic was taken just as the Koi was harvested in 1st of November, and the pic on the right is right now (9 months later). If you look at the kiwa, and sashi you can see how the hi plate develops and fills in. This development, or gradual improvement of the hi plate will continue over the next few years.
Here is another example - female Kohaku, early nisai to 5 years old, left to right.
