I made the 2.5 hour drive from my farm up to Cary, NC this past Friday for the 1st Carolina Classic Young Koi Show. The weather was a little dreary on Friday, but cleared up nicely for a great Koi Show on Saturday and Sunday. Congratulations to the Shaffer family for going 2 for 2 - Baby Grand Champion at last week’s Greenville Show, AND at this weekend’s show with their Lotus Land Koi Farm Size 2 Kohaku - and the same for the Mungo family,... congratulations for going 2 for 2 - Best In Variety - Sanke at last week’s Greenville Show, AND at this weekend’s show with their Lotus Land Koi Farm Sanke! Congratulations also go out to Jason and MaeBeth Guevara for a pair of 1st Places with their Sanke and Matsuba Ogon, to Steve McMichael for his 1st Place Kohaku, Best In Variety - Hikari Utsuri to Janae Voisard, and Best In Size 2 to Chris Mungo with a Kohaku he selected at the Lotus Land Koi Farm Fall Harvest Sale. What’s interesting is the Baby Grand Champion Lotus Land Kohaku and the Best In Size 2 Lotus Land Kohaku are siblings,... and were both in contention throughout the Size 2 judging,... they were situated in tanks at opposite sides of the show ring,... but Judges Art & Nicole Lembke noticed that the beni was the same ‘type’ on both Koi,... as they compared the two and spoke to the crowd during their evaluations,... an impressive observation. They had never seen either Koi before. They were absolutely the same type.
Here are some snapshots from the show. Photos of some of the winners are posted in the awards’ section of this web site.
