I’m often asked ‘Why do I call my Koi farm Lotus Land,... when all I produce is Koi,... no plants,... no Lotus?’. Well,... Lotus Land is an old literary term that means “a state or an ideal marked by contentment often achieved through self-indulgence”
At harvest time the name Lotus Land is very fitting! Today was another incredible day immersed in mud, and immersed in Koi! Tosai Kujaku, Hariwake, and Matsuba Ogon were harvested today,... as well as some more 2 year olds.
The day started early, as usual, and while the ponds were being pumped down I hung out with some of the other regulars here at the farm. In addition to Koi we have 4 female goats, 5 ducks, 2 roosters, and 1 hen. We had more hens, but we also have foxes and bobcats roaming the grounds.
I got a surprise visit today from my good Koi pal Chuck. He’s the most skilled free labor in existence. The guy knows how to net a Koi! The day wasn’t ALL work and no play,... Here I’m seeing how well he can hang onto the wagon being pulled by 4 wheeler without spilling his beer. He didn’t spill a drop.
Here are photos of a few the 2 year olds we harvested and moved up to the barn today.
