A few photos from the 2nd look at Kohakus today - these are only 63 days old, and have a long journey of development ahead of them. Everything is there,... skin quality, body shape, color development, and patterning,... the last ingredient needed is ‘time’.
Up to this point my 2007 Kohaku spawn was my best Kohaku production ever,... in comparing the two groups though this 2010 Kohaku group is my best to date. The quality is just so high, and the numbers of quality pieces is very high. A huge contributing factor this season has been the weather. It’s hard to convey just how important weather is to a Koi breeder’s year,... but it truly affects every element of breeding,... the temperature, the amount of rain, the make-up of the rain water, etc. Sometimes I’m chasing the parameters of the grow-out and fry ponds, trying to correct what Mother Nature has dealt me,... and sometimes I’m very thankful for the ‘gifts’ she’s given in the form of perfect weather and perfect rain.
I’ll post more photos of this group of Kohakus, as well as updates on my Showa, Sanke, Goshiki, and other 2010 Koi.
My annual FALL HARVEST SALE date has been set for Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 26! Many of these excellent new tosai will be available for sale that weekend,... as well as many great Nisai and older Koi!
