After a hectic Spring start-up of chores, bringing new mod ponds on-line, and breeding prep, breeding here at Lotus Land Koi Farm is now complete for my 2011 crop. This year 2 Kohaku sets, 3 Showa sets, 1 Sanke set, 1 Yamabuki Ogon set, 1 Chagoi set, 1 Hariwake set, and 2 Goshiki sets were bred. As of right now all looks wonderful in Lotus Land! It’s a long Summer though,... so this is only a beginning,... a starting point.
I’ll be posting photos of the progress of these new 2011 Koi fry throughout the Summer.

Timing is a critical part of high quality Koi breeding. Many details must come together at the right time, and work together toward the goal. This new ‘food chain’ of Daphnia, Water Fleas, and other tiny aquatic creatures is jump started at the right time within the breeding schedule. If it comes too early then the newly hatched Koi fry will become food,... if it comes too late then the newly hatched Koi crop will starve and the numbers for the season will be low.
The beginning of a food chain,...
